Yes — in most cases. Drone operators must hold an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate for commercial work. Many locations also require prior airspace authorization. Always confirm your photographer is FAA licensed before booking drone coverage. AlphaRes Studio operates exclusively with FAA-certified pilots.
Where Are Drones NOT Allowed?
- Within 5 miles of San Diego International Airport (SAN) without authorization
- Over crowds or moving vehicles
- National Parks — Torrey Pines State Reserve requires a special permit
- Some private venues prohibit drones in their vendor contracts
