Drone Wedding Videography in San Diego: Aerial Footage That Transforms Your Film
June 7, 2026After the wedding excitement fades, the question shifts to: where are my photos? Here is the honest answer — including the industry standard, why it takes that long, and what your contract should say.
Industry Standard for Wedding Photo Delivery
The professional wedding photography industry standard is 4-8 weeks for delivery of a fully edited gallery. Here is what that looks like:
- Under 3 weeks: Unusually fast — may indicate rushed editing or batch-processing with minimal attention to individual images
- 4-6 weeks: Standard for organized, experienced professionals
- 6-8 weeks: Normal for busy photographers during peak season
- 10-12 weeks: Acceptable if disclosed upfront, common during fall peak season
- Over 12 weeks: Should be specified in the contract — ask why before you sign
Why Does Editing Take So Long?
A full wedding gallery of 500-800 images requires 20-40 hours of post-processing work. This includes culling from 2,000-3,000 raw captures down to the final gallery, color grading and exposure work on every image, skin retouching on key portraits, consistency matching across the full gallery, export, upload, and gallery organization.
Photographers also have multiple clients — a busy professional may be editing 2-3 weddings simultaneously while also photographing new ones on weekends.
What Should Be in Your Contract
Your contract should specify an exact delivery date or a maximum number of days — not vague language like “in a timely manner.” If the contract does not include a delivery timeline, add it before signing.
Sneak Peeks
Many photographers offer a sneak peek — 10-20 edited images delivered within 48-72 hours of the wedding. This gives you something to share immediately while the full gallery is in production. Ask if your photographer includes this.
What About Wedding Video?
Cinematic wedding films take longer due to the complexity of editing: 8-12 weeks is the standard, with peak-season delivery sometimes extending to 14-16 weeks. The audio syncing, color grading, and narrative structuring of a 5-8 minute film requires significantly more post-production time than photo editing.
Alphares Studio delivers photo galleries within 5-6 weeks and films within 8-10 weeks, with sneak peeks typically within 48 hours of your event. Learn about our delivery process.
